Waves

The best time to come to the Mentawai Islands for surfing is between April and October. There are plenty of surfing options in the vicinity of Manai Koat Surf Camp. With two surf sessions offered a day you will be able to surf most of the breaks in the area, including the worlds famous Telescopes.

Telescopes:
Telescopes is a world class consistent lefthander that suits a wide range of skill levels. It breaks on a variety of different swells, however it prefers a decent sized west swell which will see you get barrel after barrel.

Icelands:
Icelands is a rippable lefthander with the occasional right, that picks up most of the swell. This wave has an easy takeoff zone that walls up nicely on the small days but on the big days it can hold some huge barrels and is definitely not for the faint hearted

Ombak Tidur (The Sleeper) and Suicides:

These are one of the few right handers in the region and the only option for northerly winds. Suicides definitely lives up to its name with a right hander peeling off a shallow reef. We recommend wearing booties out here as no one returns to the camp unscathed. However a fast rippable wave that walls up nicely and throws out a few tubes.

Ombak Tikus(The Rat):
This wave is the closest wave to Manai Koat Surf Camp and a great spot to take your misses to or if you just want a mellow fun session. The left hander walls up perfectly with many wackable sections and is one of the few spots that likes the south wind.

Scarecrows:
Another left hander that works in most swells and all tides. Due to a few take off zones the crowds are spread out here giving you more opportunity to catch a sneaky one. Scarecrows offers long rides and barrels. Watch out for the “Curry Bowl” further down the line as you will either get the tube or beating of your life.
